BlueSky Content

This site was a joint project between myself and a good friend and former colleague. Both with writing backgrounds, we decided to found a new platform whereby we offer our writing, print design and editing services to international clients, having both already dealt with these client pools in the past. The site was built as a one-page, smooth scrolling and visually interesting site. This was built using my heavily customised web frameworks for WordPress and a custom HTML boilerplate, that I am rather proud of! Here it is in action.

Booja Booja Chocolates Competition

This international luxury chocolate brand required a series of competition pages designed and integrated into their existing WordPress build. One competition was for retailers to host an ice cream party, while the other was for consumers to also host a party over the summer. It was of course very important to continue the feminine and pastel look and feel, while making sure the new pages were responsive as per usual.

UK Credit

I worked at UK Credit for over two years, and in that time, as the sole Digital Designer in the marketing department, completely redesigned and redeveloped the entire site, the entire customer journey application process and dashboard, direct marketing campaign materials, email marketing suite and banner marketing assets. Here are some of the designs for the site. I soley took the customer journey application redesign and development from hand-drawn ideas, to low fidelity wireframes (with detailed signposting to indicate site function which couldn’t be visualised) to Photoshop mockups, static HTML in my own dev environment, integration with the web developers integration environment, through to test, user acceptance and then finally published to the live environment. Being a small company with and even smaller dev team, I was working alongside several departments simultaneously for over a year on this project. If you would like to see more materials created for UK Credit, please get in touch.

Loan On My Car

The client required an email to compliment a site redesign and rebuild I had already completed for them. This email was to hit data, which this around for the site, was pixel-perfect, modernised and responsive.

Cover My Salary

An affiliate network required a lead gen site redesign and rebuild, accompanied by an email creative. In keeping with a design framework for their family of lead gen sites, new corporate branding was also designed by myself. Going with a calming green, the outcome was fully mobile responsive, lightweight using components from my own devkit of code snippets and frameworks, and was well received by the client.

Fix My Mortgage

Priority Health Cover

The client required a lead gen site featuring an engaging hero images and a good use of colour. There is a lot of text to read, which on the previous design was placed haphazardly, leaving the form fighting for attention it of course requires. My redesign of the site and the email creative was received well and so coding commenced.

Fix my Life Insurance

Again, the client required a totally responsive experience as to cater for any device, which of course means 100% accessibility and maximum lead gen. The entire brand and all assets were redesigned by myself, and assets were coded once the client had signed off the visuals. In addition, the JavaScript validation was rebuilt to provide a smoother transition for the user to a problem in the form, as well as an unavoidable alert popup. Working closely with the clients own back end developers, we both rigged up the site ready for launch.

Anglian Home Improvements Visualiser Tool

This tool was commissioned to give users of the website an opportunity to ‘play’ with the website, and try out combinations of colours, designs and home types, until they were hopefully tempted to click the ‘get quote’ button. In addition, there is a print button, where users could print out a copy to hand to perhaps less technically minded family members. This sneakily puts in some additional sales text to continue to press the need to get in touch with the business. The tool was built purely with HTML, CSS and JS, all coded by myself. Try it out!

Anglian Home Improvements Grants Scheme

These forms were retrofitted into a ‘challenging’ website. The original site, which has since been replaced, was very cluttered and compact, so I attempted to create a clear space to complete an all important quote form by placing the fields into a lightbox, whic was bold and clear.

Shebang iFrame

This fun little project was to code a well contructed iframe page which would only be accessible tot he user for about 30 seconds, so it had to be perfect. Colours and spacing were chosen with presicion, and the fun button animations help the user really feel confident that their enquiry was received, in what is normally a very throwaway part of an application form journey. The result helped maximise the potential of this underutilised time.

Quick Quid

While working on builds for affiliate networks, I was essentially working directly with clients directly to speed up completion. One of the many brands I’ve worked with is Quick Quid, who were working on a rev share using this responsive landing page, which I designed, coded and agreed sign-off with the brand manager directly. I also put this live, being very familiar with both Linux and Microsoft web server management.

AWM Version 2

This is an unused refresh of my previous company’s website to incorporate new project work and to showcase the technologies powering these (i.e. strong and context driven (not necessarily current) design understanding with mobile optimised sites = good return for our customers). It is all fully mobile optimised as standard, and featured a portfolio shuffler, which I hand coded myself. What this does it randomises the layout of the portfolio items to keep each page fresh, while maintaining correct and consistent proportions throughout these dynamic tweaks. Also, this is already in WordPress with dummy content, and so this custom code works alongside the WordPress ‘loop’, without any conflicts with the core code.

Life Insurance UK Lead Gen Site

Working from an existing web design, I was tasked with producing a micro-site together with a set of email creatives for the affiliate network to capture life insurance leads. The site has gone through a few design refreshes in its time to continue profitability, and this task fell to me to execute each time. The design and brand changes are documented below.

Cloud Freebies

This lead generation site, arguably the first UK freebie site to be 100% responsive across all current web enabled devices, is another WordPress build. A common theme I noticed with many responsive web sites is that they’re still very simplistic even in the full desktop version – for a site of this size, this attitude towards design was not an option. Complete with customisations to the content editor to aid with the addition of new freebie items on a regular basis, it is the most ambitious responsive web design I have completed. It has an extremely complex set of CSS classes and media queries modifications to the Gumby responsive framework I used to begin the site build. The maximum amount of columns for one ‘row’ of the site is a maximum of 128, all of which gracefully scale down depending on the user’s device. In addition to the site, I designed and coded Facebook App iframe and email campaign landing pages to work alongside a MailChimp driven email campaign to encourage users to like the site. This proved to be highly successful, and in just over a year, the site had gained a very strong following. To entertain returning users, […]

Postee

The B2B client needed a complete brand ready to be handed over to a design and management team to grow following my involvement. I designed the website, the cartoon mascots and the branding alone. The characters were taken from quick hand sketched, through to Photoshop and then to Illustrator, to create vector graphics for use on future direct marketing, vinyl and so on. And as standard, the site was coded to be completely responsive.

Open Resolution

The B2C client required landing pages to encourage the user to engage with the page form regardless of device. I designed and coded a fully mobile-ready, responsive classic ASP driven series of pages. In order to avoid loading the large images on smaller devices with weaker hardware and download speeds (mobile phones), I utilised and modified some Classic ASP script to intelligently decide to serve the user varying image sizes to compensate for whatever device was in use.

Quotatis Working Concept

This is a working concept for a fully mobile optimised lead generation hub I both designed and coded in 48 hours as part of an interview process. It seemed a shame not to include it here! Chloe Smith MP

The office of Chloe Smith MP required a website that was built to a tight budget, was easy to update, would ‘self SEO’, had multiple forms of access to news articles, was fresh, professional and user friendly. I single handedly designed, coded and tutored on the use of WordPress and the custom functions built into the editor to the office staff to keep the content flowing onto the site, which has a huge reach nationally due to Chloe’s status. The result was a site which was easy to use, easy to manage, and secure – with thousands of bot hack attempts blocked.

Simple Instant Guarantor Loans

This is a fully responsive WordPress powered lead generation site used to collect leads for guarantor loans brokerage. I designed, coded, scripted JavaScript validation and managed site testing single-handed. In pursuit of the ‘ultimate’ lead gen journey, I also worked on a responsive email creative design in light of the studies of MailChimp. I also crammed a traditional 2 page submit journey into a single page with a smooth page ‘load’ simulation powered by jQuery and some CSS swapping scripting. Go to the site via the above link and try scaling your browser window to watch the site flow to the browser boundaries.

Premier Solar Panels

Lead generation site for leads of customers who are interested in getting solar panel quotes for their home. This site has been running since summer 2011 and in that time has seen a stream of traffic and a lot of conversions. The entirety of the website is my work: from web design, to WordPress theme code, landing page design, JavaScript validation writing, web banner design and animation, email creative design, email creative coding, email creative debugging, and the ongoing maintenance and monthly asset refresh. It has been one of the largest projects Aspect has handled and therefore one of the largest I have been charged with developing and maintaining.
